I figured out something last week. Maybe saying I admitted to myself might be a better way to put it.
I’m consistently in a better mood when when I make music.
Yeah, I know. Seems obvious, right? As I’ve said within these pages, I finished my wife’s collection of songs, so I decided to take a couple of weeks off before continuing on to my next projects. That seems to have been a mistake. I realized at the end of last week that I progressed into a lousy mood, and it pervaded most of my life. It also got worse until I figured out why.
Of course, there are times when making music puts me in a bad mood; when I have lousy practice sessions, when I have problems getting a recording done, and when I think too long about my lack of success. However, none of that changes the fact that when I have a guitar in my hands and I’m playing, I’m doing what feels the most right in this world - even when I do so poorly. It seems like this is something I should have learned well by now.
What can I say? I’m a stubborn motherfucker.
That’s it for now. Happy holidays.
